“Nifty, nifty United States, with 13 original colonies…” Every Friday morning that catchy tune would crackle over the intercom of my elementary school when I was young. I can still recite the entire song today. The truly “nifty” thing about the song was that is helped me effortlessly memorize all the states in alphabetical order.
I don’t own the rights to that song, or else I’d share it with you. However, I am able to give you this list of states in alphabetical order. After mentioning that song, I went online to do a bit of research on it. It turns out that “Fifty Nifty United States” was composed by Ray Charles (Not the soul-singer/pianist Ray Charles. He self-deprecatingly calls himself “The other Ray Charles.”
