Here is a set of free Dolch Sight Words Lists for teachers and parents of Pre-K, Kindergarten, 1st Grade, 2nd Grade, and 3rd Grade Students. Dolch Sights Words are a collection of common words that every child should know. The lists were compiled in 1936 by Edward William Dolch, and remain highly relevant in childhood education to this day. There are 220 Dolch Sight Words in all. For your convenience, I have divided these sight words across five lists: Pre-K Sight Words, Kindergarten Sight Words, First Grade Sight Words, Second Grade Sight Words, and Third Grade Sight Words. Each Dolch Sight Word has a check box next to it. Parents or teachers and check the word off the list when they feel their child has a true understanding of the word.

The Dolch Sight Word List of 220 non-noun words every child should know was compiled by Edward William Dolch in 1936. He picked the words from children’s books from his time. Another list created by Dolch is composed solely of nouns. Both sets of lists have been provided below. The term “Sight Word” implies that the words have to be learned by sight, since some can’t easily be sounded out. It is estimated that 50 to 75% of words find in magazines, newspapers, and books can be found on the Dolch Sight World List.
