Greenland is the largest island in the world. The country is part of the Kingdom of Denmark, and is located between the Arctic Ocean and the Atlantic Ocean. Greenland is the least densely populated country in the world, with 55,984 people in 2015. For of over 4,500 years, Greenland was inhabited by Arctic people who had migrated from Canada. Around the year 1000, Norsemen settled there. They were led by Erik the Red, and it was Erik the Red’s son, Leif Ericson, who led a sailing expedition to North America. Around the 13th century the Inuit people arrived, and by the late 15th century, the Norsemen disappeared from the country. In 1814 Denmark set up a colony in Greenland, and in 1953 it became part of the Kingdom of Denmark.
